Status update: October 2026
Anthropic expanded the program in early October 2026 and received, in its own words, "hundreds of thousands of applications over the past few days". It is now over capacity on the free Claude Team year and the $1,000 API credit offer, and says it will re-review all applications, which may change the status of some.
If you already claimed the offer, nothing changes. Existing members keep the Startup Stack, office hours and events. Terms are moving quickly, so check Anthropic's program page before you plan around any number in this article.

Who can apply
You don't need VC funding. Anthropic says the program is open to bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed startups. To apply, sign in to the Claude Console and fill out the application. Anthropic aims to review every application within a week and emails the decision.
Two restrictions are worth knowing before you build around the credits:
- First-party API only. Program credits apply to the Claude API through the Claude Console. They can't be used on AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI or other third-party platforms.
- Investor-claimed credits. The larger VC partner credits go through your investor. Ask them whether they're part of Anthropic's network.
Credits are not a system
Free credits lower the cost of trying. They don't decide what to build, connect it to your tools, or keep it running. The founders who get real value tend to start small:
- Pick one repeating process. Inbox triage, client onboarding and reporting are good candidates. Choose something that eats hours every week.
- Connect it to your tools. Value comes when Claude works inside the apps your team already uses, not in a separate chat window.
- Keep a person in the loop. Review outputs at first, then loosen oversight as trust builds.
- Measure hours saved. If you can't measure it, you can't decide whether to expand it.
